Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions at the shows I attend. Yes, they really do ask these.
Who takes all these pictures?
Pam Wood, also known as Photography by Pamé.
But what about the Shark pictures?
Yes, I shot those as well.
Did the Sharks scare you?
Only when I got out of the water.
Do you have to go to these places to get these shots?
Yes I do.
How do you get these aerial shots?
I charter flights on a small high wing cessna from local flight clubs.
Are these real photos?
Yes, these are real photos.
They are so brilliant, colorful and sharp focus. They look like paintings, why is that?
First it starts with a carefully composed shot, sometimes its just luck. Right place, right time is another factor. Planning a shot also comes into play especially with the landscapes. My experience editing in the computer is very helpful using Photoshop and Lightroom. I believe my painting background helps a lot.
How are these photos made?
I produce all the work myself from the photography, computer editing, printing, laminating, mounting and framing. For more information, see my Order Prints page.
How do you get so close to these animals?
It sure helps to know the right people. Some of these animals were in the wild, the Sharks were shot in the Bahamas while scuba diving and I was usually within inches (no cage). I gather my images from whatever sources I can including: privately owned exotic animals, zoos, wildlife/animal parks. Africa, South America, Asia and the rest of the world are at the top of my photographic journey wish list. If you have any suggestions on where I could get some more amazing animal photo opportunities, I would love to hear from you!
What camera do you use?
I currently use a Canon 5d for all my shots from aerials to underwater. For underwater, I use an Ikelite underwater housing with substrobe. Various Canon EOS lens.
Wow, your paintings are way cool too, some of them even look like they are photos?
Thanks for noticing! I worked hard on them, photo-realism was my goal. The airbrush is the trick!
